Do I look cool with my new accessories? Kekeke!
3rd Follow up
The platelet count is 275 this time round, although a drop from the previous visit, Dr Allen Yeoh advised that it is still a good number. As long as it does not have a dramatic drop like 50K.. Next follow up would be in another 2 weeks' time.
Let's keep praying for Jareth's well being.
TMX Elmo!
Knowing that I will like this, Mummy bought this from the US @ a 50% discount. Mummy had ordered from 1 of the sprees but the package was lost in transit, and the worst thing that could happened was that US was already out of stock!
Sob sob.. But this did not hamper Mummy from getting it for me. She posted in the the forum to ask if there are any mummies who are willing to let go of their ELMO... and WAHLA! She finally got it! So the moral of the story is.. 天下无难事, 只怕有心人!
Thank you Mummy! Muck!
Molars again...
Block Slotting
Ye! I know how to slot in the blocks with some guidance..See how 'how lian' when I got one in.. Kekeke
Molars
My upper left molar has since pop out on the 2nd of May. However because of my stay in the hospital, Mummy was so disoriented that she did not help me to update it on my blog. It was only after reading Trisha Mei Mei's entry that she realized it.
Mummy don't think too much ok, I am a well and healthy boy again. :) Just bear with me when I get too naughty.. :P
Shopping @ IMM
Look how comfortably I am seated in the shopping cart? Kekeke.. Thanks for the cushion effect of my diapers..
Mummy was saying that I look like a big kid in this picture.. Do I?
2nd Follow up
The usual range is about 150k to 300k and he has way exceeded that figure.. And that is suppose to be very healthy..
The next follow up would be in another 2 weeks time... I believe he is already all well as he is back to his naughty self again.. :) Not a bad thing after all!
I just can't contain my happiness... Decided to send this good piece of news to all!
1st Follow up - Dr Allan Yeoh
However from the past records, the platelet would usually have been at the healthy leavl.. We just got to monitor again next week..
ITP - Day 5
We could not sleep for the entire night before.. We keep praying for the results to be well..
When the doctors came in the morning, all eyes were on them.. The wait is just killing.. It's just like waiting for the the judge to announce the verdict... Tension was so high.. Oxygen level has suddenly became so limited in the room.. Then....It was then the doctor flash the biggest smile that I have ever seen.. And the results announced were 30k!
Although it is still an low figure, but it is already on an increasing trend.. And this is definitely a good sign. The only concern is that the white blood cell (WBC)has came down...
The doctor has ordered us to be discharged today, as he foresees that it will still increase. However an follow up would be required on Thursday, to ensure that the WBC will go up as well.
We would also thank Nurse Sheryl for taking such great care of Jareth..
ITP - Day 4
It is back to 10k...
Our hearts drop....
Doctors advise that sometimes it needs to have 2 does to take effect. Another round of IVIG again.. Jareth is also getting frustrated being confine on the bed and being hooked up with so many machines..
At this point in time, I just hope to trade in my life for him.. Nothing beats to see him all healthy again..
ITP - Day 3
Platelet count is 12k today.. Although an increase, but not an satisfactory level. Usually it takes about 48 hours for the IVIG to have response. We just have to wait for another day to monitor...
However the side effects of IVIG has caused vomiting and the lack of appetite. Jareth vomited so much that there is no food left in his little tummy.. It is just the yellow substance that were rejected... When ever we tried to feed him, he just doesn't want it.. Even after drinking his favourite apple juice, he could not contain it for long.
It was only the evening that he manage a little porridge..
As adults going through this is already so painful.. Let alone a little one suffering this... Its just too cruel..
ITP - Day 2
The blood test result is out.
Jareth's platelets are extremely low. He is only about 10 thousands, whereas the healthy level is 150 thousands.
Platelets helps in the process of blood clotting, and being low in the platelet level would means that there is a high risk of excessive bleeding from falls. He would also need to be hooked up on a machine to monitor his heart rate etc to ensure there isn't any internal bleeding (which is rare).
After assessing Jareth's condition, they had similar diagnose which is also ITP. However they would also want to ensure that the treatment would not cover up an traces of leukaemia. In consultation with a Haematologist, they have decided that the best course of treatment would be the administration of IVIG. Given that IVIG is extracted for thousands of donors, the cost is about $700 + per administration. Anyway cost is not an issue.. we just want Jareth to response well to the treatment. Temperature and blood pressure would have to be monitor on a regular basis as the side effect of IVIG could be fever, increase blood pressure and headache.
The total number of hours for the administration to be completed is about 8 hours..
We can't bear to take any photos of Jareth in this state, but because my Sis-In-Law wants to take a look at him we had snap this using hubby's HP
ITP - Day 1
I was struggling to decide if I should be blogging this entry.... My emotions are still very raw with the thoughts of it. With lots of deliberation I decide that it would be beneficial for Mummies knowing this piece of knowledge which was not even highlighted before.
Jareth was hospitalised from the 2nd till the 6th of May 08 for ITP, known as Idiopathic or Immune Thrombocytopenic Purpura. Althought the cause of this is unknown, however given that Jareth just had his MMR jab approximately 3 weeks ago it is of a high possibility that it is due to this vaccination. Reports has also shown that the risk of ITP after MMR jab is estimated to be 1 in 24,000 doses and usually occurs within 6 weeks.
We had spotted red dots and bruises on Jareth's body and some bleeding on this lips on the 2nd of May. Initially we had thought that it was HFMD or Chicken Pox. After my husband was back from work, we immediately rushed down to the PD to verify the cause. None of us had anticipated what the doctor was going to tell us.. Dr. Gong has told us that the red dots are known as Petechias and the bruises were not due to him hurting himself but it was of a spontaneous nature. The initial diagnose would be ITP, however there is still a possibility of something adverse which is Leukaemia. He ordered to get Jareth warded to the hospital immediately to perform a Full Blood Count and to ascertain the cause.
During the conversation, I just could not believe what I have just heard. I could not even bear to continue listening to what Dr Gong was saying. Tears starts to welled up my eyes.. wild thoughts keep running thru my head.. thinking if it is because I had not fulfil my duty as a mum that resulted in this.. and how could a healthy and active child can suddenly be ill?? The number of times Jareth fell ill can be even calculated by an hand... Questions after questions keep popping out of my head....
I was just too lost...
It was my husband who got everything going after which.
First night at the hospital was horrendous. The doctors ordered for a needle to be inserted on Jareth's left hand. Guess every parents can visualised what is going to happen next.. Full of resistance, tears and struggled... My heart just ache... I just wish I was the one going thru all this.. and not a young child like him.... It was about 1 am, and he cried himself to sleep...
