ITP - Day 2

The blood test result is out.

Jareth's platelets are extremely low. He is only about 10 thousands, whereas the healthy level is 150 thousands.

Platelets helps in the process of blood clotting, and being low in the platelet level would means that there is a high risk of excessive bleeding from falls. He would also need to be hooked up on a machine to monitor his heart rate etc to ensure there isn't any internal bleeding (which is rare).

After assessing Jareth's condition, they had similar diagnose which is also ITP. However they would also want to ensure that the treatment would not cover up an traces of leukaemia. In consultation with a Haematologist, they have decided that the best course of treatment would be the administration of IVIG. Given that IVIG is extracted for thousands of donors, the cost is about $700 + per administration. Anyway cost is not an issue.. we just want Jareth to response well to the treatment.  Temperature and blood pressure would have to be monitor on a regular basis as the side effect of IVIG could be fever, increase blood pressure and headache.

The total number of hours for the administration to be completed is about 8 hours..

We can't bear to take any photos of Jareth in this state, but because my Sis-In-Law wants to take a look at him we had snap this using hubby's HP
